Oceanside Glasstile Co. is now one of the world's leading coloured glass companies, dominating both the pure coloured glass and fusing world with its unique range of products.
Oceanside's very own glass history goes back to 1992, when back then four company founders set up a production facility for glass tiles in Oceanside, Southern California. Long before there was talk of green building and up-cycling all over the world, Oceanside was already turning old bottle glass into new glass tiles for high-quality wall design or pool cladding. When Oceanside bought the production facilities, recipes and rights from the recently closed Spectrum Glass smelter in 2017, it was a real milestone not only for Oceanside itself. Presumably, the entire glass world breathed a sigh of relief that the successful history of continuous ribbon coloured glass production would continue.
Oceanside is known for its particularly smooth and transparent glass. The endless ribbon production process sets Oceanside apart from all other glassworks. After the hot glass mass has passed the rolling mill, it passes through a very long roller-guided cooling line. Only at the end of this cooling line is the wonderful glass cut off slice by slice and packed in wooden crates. So the panes are not rolled individually and pushed onto a table, which of course always leaves marks. So if you are looking for contour-rich structures with as few bubbles as possible and as little background structure as possible, then choose a glass from the Oceanside glass factory.
While Spectrum Glass shaped the System96 brand, today we predominantly speak of Oceanside Compatible in the fuser scene. The glass is attributed the AK (coefficient of expansion) 96. This also makes it a highly valued glass in hot glass studios, where the techniques of glass fusing can now be combined with the possibilities at the studio kiln.
